In a new interview with Allison Hagendorf, Tool singer Maynard James Keenan admits that the band made a mistake by not embracing music streaming services for decades. Keenan was asked about Tool’s decision to only have their music released on physical formats for years, instead of sharing their music on digital platforms like Spotify and Apple Music. Keenan disclosed that it wasn’t his choice while insisting that he wanted the band to share their music digitally for the past 20 years. Eventually his bandmates finally “caved” to his requests. “I feel like we missed the boat,” Keenan admits. “We missed 20 years of reaching two generations of people to understand what it is that we do. I feel like we made a mistake not being on those mediums for 20 years. People didn’t know who we were because we weren’t around. They weren’t exposed to it. It’s not on your phone.” (Consequence of Sound)
